We want to try putting sociocracy into practice, so we have different groups or pods, which help run the essential functions that keep the community going. The community will hold an AGM to make major community decisions, but pods will make day to day decisions. This is just how the community will start, and we imagine weaving more democratic processes into the community structure, as we grow and formalise our processes.

In terms of structure and governance, questions that remain to be explored include:

Key functions or ‘roles’ need fulfilling, in order for the community to work at a fundamental level.

Each ‘role’ is, ideally, supported by three people. Together, they form a ‘Pod’. Each pod has its own purpose and accountabilities.

Pods empower / enable the alumni community to become more autonomous and resilient.

Volunteers from the community step in and out of roles, in line with their capacity.
